Gunnison County (county seat)
Gunnison is a mountain community of 5,854 located in central Colorado, best known for being the home of Western State University and for its proximity to Crested Butte. Gunnison is served by the Gunnison Crested Butte Regional Airport, making it the connecting point for out of state skiers heading to and from Crested Butte. Gunnison is close to the natural wonders of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Curecanti National Recreation Area. The Blue Mesa Resevoir provides boating and fishing opportunities to outdoor enthusiasts, while the annual Cattlemen's Days event attracts thousands each July.
